Classic Repeats
Weekly Dwarf back on Dave... and on the Beeb!
25 May, 2012
As if it weren't already a good time to be a Red Dwarf fan - what with, you know, that brand new six-episode series on the way in a few months' time - there's currently a pleasingly high level of classic Dwarf action finding its way on to the airwaves at the moment.
As you may already have seen, our New Favourite Channel, Dave, have been showing double-bills of classic Red Dwarf episodes in a plum Friday night 9pm slot. Series I and II have already been shown in full - and as of this week, we move on to Series III, although for reasons unknown to anyone but Dave's schedulers, we're jumping forward two episodes and starting with Polymorph and Bodyswap - with Timeslides and The Last Day following on Friday 1st June.
If you miss the episodes on a Friday night, they're also repeated in the small hours of Saturday night/Sunday morning - and not only that, but Dave are continuing to plant liberal sprinklings of classic eps throughout their weekly schedules as well. Dave can be found on Sky channel 111, Virgin Media 128 and Freeview 19, and you can learn more about when the series is showing on our TV & Online page.
But that's not all. The BBC - remember them? - are currently broadcasting the Red Dwarf Radio Show version of Infinity Welcomes Careful Drivers on their really rather excellent digital station Radio 4 Extra (formerly known as Radio 7). This version of the original audio book, read by Chris Barrie, makes up for being cut down (from the original eight hour-plus running time) into six half-hour episodes by adding music and all manner of sound-effecty goodness. The episodes are currently airing on Sundays at 6.30pm and again at 12.30am. Episode one aired this last week - but you can still catch it on iPlayer.
If you're outside the UK, meanwhile, there's still a chance that Red Dwarf might be showing somewhere near you. In the USA, years after syndication first began, episodes still show on some PBS affiliates; while after a brief hiatus, having finished showing Series VIII, Australian network The Comedy Channel have now looped back around and are showing Series II on Sunday evenings. And of course, if you don't have access to these broadcasts, there's still all manner of ways to catch the show on demand.
