Did You Know?
The Lifestyles of the Disgustingly Rich and Famous presenter was originally intended to be played by Graham Chapman, before the Monty Python star - who would sadly pass away later that year - became too ill to do so. He was replaced by comedian and actress Ruby Wax, who also happened to be the wife of director Ed Bye.
Craig Charles contributed two of his own songs to this episode - "Bad News" is played while Kryten is developing the photographs, while "Cash" soundtracks the appearance of the alternative timeline super-rich Lister. Craig also made a suggestion that affected the script: realising that a line spoken by the holidaying couple in the photograph, about getting photos of some guy being sick (i.e. Lister), wouldn't make sense as the photos wouldn't have been sent for developing at the moment they were taken!
Smeg and the Heads, featuring Craig's younger brother Emile as the younger Lister, were filled out by two members of heavy metal titans Napalm Death: Bill Steer as Dobbin and Jeff Walker as Gary. The Midlands band had recently appeared on a children's show (!) hosted by Craig, titled What's That Noise.
"Special Guest Star" Adolf Hitler appears courtesy of archive footage. Characters purporting to be Hitler would later appear in two further episodes in Series IV and XII.
