Chatting About Costumes
Howard Burden to talk at British Film Institute.
11 January, 2013
Last year, we spent some time spotlighting the fantastic creations of Howard Burden, Red Dwarf's costume designer from Series III all the way up to Series X. But in 2012, following the completion of his superb work on Red Dwarf X, Howard himself was busy getting a brand new high-profile job, taking over as costume designer on Doctor Who for the second half of the presently-underway Series 7.
Howard designed the one-off costumes worn by Matt Smith and Jenna-Louise Coleman in the 2012 Christmas special, The Snowmen, as well as the rather dazzling new outfit the Eleventh Doctor will be wearing when the series gets back underway. But with his new job comes a new responsibility, as he's been asked by the BFI to speak at an upcoming seminar titled Designing for Science-Fiction.
The event, at which Howard will discuss his work both on Who and also - of course - Red Dwarf, will take place at the Wimbledon College of Art on Wednesday 20th February, at 2.30pm. Although it's primarily happening as part of the college's screen design syllabus, it's also open to members of the public. At the time of writing this, tickets are only available to current BFI members - but they'll go on general sale at 11.30am on Tuesday 15th.
Find out more and buy tickets at the BFI website.
