Valentine's Dwarf
Five romantic things to do this weekend.
12 February, 2016
It's mid-February again, and that means love is in the air - and Valentine's Day is an occasion that has a special place in the hearts of all of us here in Red Dwarf land, thanks to it being the same time of year on which we celebrate the show's anniversary. Not to mention all the gushy and romantic stuff that's found its way into a surprising number of episodes over the years.
But if you're stuck for something for you and your loved one to do this Valentine's weekend, here are five things you could check out to make the day go with a distinctly Red Dwarf twist...
1. Watch a romantic episode
Get your Netflix and Chill (or your iTunes, or your BBC Store, or Amazon Prime) on by firing up one of the two classic Red Dwarf episodes that have aired on Valentine's Day: Camille, which reunites Robert Llewellyn with off-screen wife Judy Pascoe for a tale of mechanoid romance; and Blue, which - of course - features that kiss between a certain pair of crewmates.
Alternatively you might want to go all the way back to 1988 and watch the very first episode, The End, which originally aired on 15th February of that year.
2. Send an e-card
Physical cards? So last century. What you really want to do, in order to let the Dwarfer in your life know just how much you love them, is send them one of our excellent Red Dwarf Valentines E-Cards. Just don't blame us if your partner decides they want to run off with Chris Barrie instead.
3. Go to a music festival
... specifically, one with Craig Charles performing at it. The BBC 6music Festival would make for an unconventional kind of date night, but certainly a memorable one. It takes place in Bristol over the whole weekend, and Craig is doing a live DJ set at the Motion club, starting at half past midnight and running into the small hours of Valentine's Day itself. Find out more and buy tickets at the website.
4. Catch up with Danny
The latest series of Death in Paradise, featuring Danny John-Jules as island cop Dwayne Myers, is about to end; but if you've missed any of it, you can still catch up with previous episodes on the BBC iPlayer. In particular, watch out for episode 4, a Dwayne-centric ep; and episode 6, which features Danny's own son Dante in a guest role!
5. Read all about it
Home alone on Valentine's Day? Don't worry, we've got your back - right here on reddwarf.co.uk there's so much stuff to read about the show we bet you haven't even got through it all yet.
You could start by reading our Valentines-themed history of the show's take on romance and relationships; or if you're in the mood to celebrate Red Dwarf's 28th anniversary, how about our extensive interview with Doug Naylor on the occasion of the 25th?
However you're spending it, have a happy Valentine's Day: we love you all!
