Another Dimension
Three weeks until DJ XVIII kicks off!
10 April, 2015
The best thing about having a long bank holiday weekend at the beginning of April is the fact that there's another one just a few short weeks away. And this year, the May bank holiday is a particularly great one for Red Dwarf fans, as it just happens to be the weekend on which the next Dimension Jump convention (the eighteenth, to be precise) is taking place. So you can have a weekend of Red Dwarf-related revelry from Friday through to Sunday, and still have an entire day left over to recover. Coo.
If you're somehow unaware of what's going on - and really, today would have to be your first ever visit to reddwarf.co.uk for that to be the case - the event is hosted by the Official Red Dwarf Fan Club, and sees hundreds of fans gather together in a hotel to enjoy all manner of officially-sanctioned entertainment and unofficially-sanctioned socialising, in a fashion of which Dave Lister himself would be proud.
The convention kicks off on the evening of Friday 1st May, running all the way through to the Sunday afternoon, and this year moves for the first time to the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Nottingham. Guests already confirmed to attend are Chris Barrie, Danny John-Jules, Robert Llewellyn, Hattie Hayridge, Mac McDonald, Gordon Kennedy and The Shend, but don't rule out there being additional surprise appearances before the weekend is up. As well as the standard Q&A panels and autograph sessions which come as part of your ticket, you'll also be able to buy a proper posed photograph with assorted guests of your choice (dependent on individual availability and times), and there'll be special "coffee morning" meet-and-greets with some of the guests, tickets for which can be bought on a first-come first-served basis at the event.
Of course, while the guests are getting some well-earned rest (or, in some cases, frantically travelling up the motorway to get there) there's plenty of other fun to be had as well. The ever-classic Red Dwarf Olympics will be making a comeback, as will the hugely popular audience-participation gameshow Goitless. Friday night will see the traditional epic group quiz, and there'll also be karaoke and the famous Saturday night disco. Plus a chance to get hold of rare merchandise and props in raffles, auction sessions and the all-weekend-long merch room. And if you're of a cosplaying persuasion, then of course you can win big in the costume competition.
If this all sounds right up your street but you still haven't got around to registering: fear not! You can still register for a weekend pass by heading on over to dimensionjump.info - although you'll have to move quickly, as advance places are increasingly limited. It's £65 if you're an existing Fan Club member, and £80 if you're not, plus of course you'll have to sort out accommodation for the weekend (but there's a special rate at the Crowne Plaza for DJ attendees - see the convention site for more information). There will also be a very limited number of passes available on the opening day itself, but the best way to guarantee your place is to book in advance.
And if you really need a taster of just how much smegging fun this all can be, then don't forget to take a look at our very own write-ups of previous years. Do you really want to miss out?

While Grant Naylor Productions fully supports the Dimension Jump convention, please note that it is not a GNP event and is organised and run by the official Fan Club.
