Nominé Pour Un Prix!
Red Dwarf X nominated at Monte Carlo TV Festival.
26 April, 2013
You'll forgive us one of our occasional bouts of Smug Mode, we're sure, but we've just learned that Series X of Red Dwarf has been nominated for a brilliantly-named Golden Nymph award, at the 2013 Monte Carlo Television Festival (or, to give it its original-language name, the Festival de Television de Monte-Carlo).
The Monte Carlo festival was founded in 1961, and is long established as one of the most respected television-specific festivals in the world, so to win a prize in one of its varied categories is a pretty major accolade. To be recognised as one of the top TV comedies worldwide in 2012 is also a staggering indicator of Series X's impact on the public.
Red Dwarf X is one of only two UK-based shows in the running - the other being Sam Bain and Jesse Armstrong's university-set Channel 4sitcom Fresh Meat - while entrants from other countries include US titans 30 Rock and Modern Family, and brilliant but underrated Australian series Lowdown.
It's some pretty distinguished company for Dwarf to be in - meaning that just being nominated, never mind winning, is a huge honour - but we'd love to see the space alongside the show's British Comedy, Royal Television Society and International Emmy Awards added to before too long...!
The festival takes place on 9th-13th June - we'll keep you posted on how the series does, and on whether Doug Naylor manages to wangle a free trip to Monaco out of it...
