DVD Down Under

RDX hits Region 4. UPDATED

Ah, Australia. Land of barbecues, Neighbours and putting those bright yellow and blue stickers on our DVD releases. The land known in shiny disc terms as "Region 4" has had a long and fruitful relationship with Red Dwarf, even going so far as to get a region-exclusive 19-disc Complete Collection boxset - the only such set so far to include Back to Earth as well as the original eight series - back in 2010.

And now, it's the second place to get the circular home video format release of Series X, as the DVD hits Australian stores as of Wednesday 12th December. The Region 4 release will contain all the same fantastic content as the original Region 2 set - including the two-hour documentary We're Smegged, described by SFX magazine as "a compelling drama all in itself". Unfortunately, our Antipodean chums won't get the reversible cover sported by the case here in the UK - but you do get a nice yellow "PG" label, so that's something. UPDATE: We've been informed that the Australian release will include the reversible cover after all. Hurrah!

Fans waiting for the series to come out over in the US, meanwhile, have just a little bit longer to wait, as the cold onset of the new year is enlivened by a January 8th Region 1 release on both DVD and Blu-ray.

Plus of course, the UK DVD and Blu-ray sets are just waiting to fill Christmas stockings across the land. And if Red Dwarf X can carry on tearing up the sales charts, then who knows what good news we might be privy to in the anniversary year of 2013...
