Bobby Unbound
Robert Llewellyn to appear at literary event.
6 July, 2012
If you're one of the many people who pledged funding for Robert Llewellyn's novel News From Gardenia - and thus now have a shiny hardback copy of the newly-published book resplendent on your shelf - you'll already know about the online publishing initiative Unbound. A website similar to Kickstarter, on Unbound authors pitch their book ideas directly to their potential readers - and if the fans want to read the book, they pledge their support.
Although Robert has already enjoyed the success of funding News From Gardenia this way, he's joining in with a special event in Birmingham this month that brings the online Unbound experience into real life:
Join us on Tuesday 10 July at Birmingham Library Theatre for a live literary event unlike anything else you've seen.
Four Unbound authors - Robert Llewellyn, Adrian Teal, Stevyn Colgan and George Chopping - will go head-to-head pitching to raise funding for their book ideas, in a cross between an election hustings and a literary Dragons' Den. Listen to the pitches, the extracts, the carefully framed arguments, the wit, the passion, the pleading and then you - the potential reader - can decide which books you'd like to see published and pledge for them on the night.
And the best part? You can get in to see Robert go head-to-head with the other authors entirely free. You need to book in advance, but it won't cost a penny - simply email nikki.bi@birmingham.gov.uk or call 0121 303 2895 to reserve your place on the guest list.
If you can't make it along to see Robert in person, it's still possible to get your hands on the excellent News From Gardenia. First edition hardbacks can still be bought from the book's page on Unbound, while paperback and Kindle releases are due to hit Amazon imminently. And if you're a fan of Robert's audiobook readings, you'll be pleased to hear that his reading of Gardenia is now available on Audioboo - and is currently the cheapest version of the book at just £5.99.
