Series II DVD

The second series launches on two extras-packed shiny discs.

Since production on the Series I and Series II DVDs began, reddwarf.co.uk has run 18 online making-of features. We hope it's kept you tickled - because the wait is finally over. On February 10th Red Dwarf Series II will reach UK (Region 2) shops in a DVD release that may even top the first.

With the original episodes spruced up in all their digital finery, complete with subtitles, plus some damn fine animated menus, even as a 'vanilla' release this would have been an essential Dwarf purchase - but once again we've piled on the extras to make this the ultimate package. And it's a timely release - February 15th marks the 15th anniversary of Red Dwarf!

Once again Chris Barrie, Craig Charles, Danny John-Jules and Norman Lovett have provided a hilarious commentary track for all six episodes, and disc one again features a hidden Easter Egg. But it's disc two that holds the bulk of the bonus material.

Top of the pile we have the Red Dwarf A-Z documentary, which features cast interviews, as well as moments with some of the show's celebrity fans and convention footage from both sides of the Atlantic. Better yet, there's an in-depth Doug Naylor interview, where Andrew Ellard quizzes the co-creator on the making of the second season.

Approximately 20 minutes of deleted scenes, the full, uncut version of Tongue Tied, another pile of Smeg Ups and more original raw effects footage have been pulled from the archives. There's also an original trailer for the first BBC2 broadcast, a huge collection of isolated music cues, a photo gallery and two talking book chapters which offer a deeper insight into the episodes. And brace yourself for more musical madness in the Alternate Personalities featurette.

Finally, there's a Weblink to your favourite Red Dwarf site. (That's this one.) With sales of Series I topping 90,000 in the UK and a launch event planned in London, it looks like this is the start of something smegging spectacular!

The Series II DVD is released on February 10th in the UK/Region 2, Australia (Region 4) will be holding on until April 7th. Region 1 - USA and Canada - will see Series I and II much sooner, on February 25th.
