Collectors Cards
The first set of Red Dwarf collector's cards become available in America.
15 March, 2002
Despite lacking, respectively, any personal hygiene or a non-suicidal battle-plan, Lister and Rimmer have conquered the USA - at least in terms of merchandise. Leading the vanguard of American 'Dwarfendise' are the first licensed collector's cards. The nine card set features all the main characters, plus Red Dwarf and Starbug, and is apparently only the first of what is hoped will be a continuing series.
"Rittenhouse Archives is very excited to be able to bring what we believe to be the first trading card set released on Red Dwarf since it first aired over 8 years ago," Robert Kohlbus, Vice President of Operations, told reddwarf.co.uk. "US and Canadian fans can order this preview set directly from our website at scifihobby.com. They can also register as a member to receive email updates on future Red Dwarf products."
And this is apparently only the beginning. "While we have not yet released details on our next Red Dwarf set, Rittenhouse Archives is working on a full set of trading cards to be released in late 2002 or early 2003 with a possible tie-in to the upcoming movie."
Red Dwarf cards are apparently all the rage, if current products are anything to go by. Hot on the heels of this nine-card set, America will shortly be getting Red Dwarf playing cards, featuring quotes from the shows. Most exciting of all, UK-based trading card company Futera are planning a release of over 100 'Dwarf cards to trade and collect. Watch this space! (Or one very much like it in another Red Hot News update.)
