Music

With next to no cash, once again it was library music all the way for Back to Earth - aside, as ever, from Howard Goodall's opening and closing themes, plus one recognisable 'ship in space' sting.

As you might expect, some Blade Runner-esque sounds were required - you'll find a full list in our library music section - along with a CSI-style track for Katerina's scientific montage. And the Lister/Kochanski theme was the appropriately named Happily Never After.

But some choices proved harder than others. Right up to the final sound mix, the track that covered the crew's trip through the dimension portal remained undecided - Cold City by David O'Brien was the final choice, though Ritual Conflict by Nick Phoenix was used through the editing as a temp track.

For the Carbug driving montage, a track called Tropical State Remix by The Response Collective was used. The band had been recommended by make-up assistant Christine Allsopp.

Right from the start, though, one music choice was set in stone: Getting to Know You performed by Ray Coniff. It was there in the script from the very beginning. It's just so Rimmer.
