Robert And Hattie Make The Jump
Fan club convention book their first guests!
3 June, 2016
It could be the special reduced price ticket offer. It could be the fact that it's taking place in between two new series of Red Dwarf. It could just be that you all really, really like Nottingham. But whatever the reason, tickets for Dimension Jump XIX, the 2017 Official Red Dwarf Fan Club convention, have been selling like flour and egg-based desserts baked to an acceptably high temperature. And they've done so before the fan club have even got around to announcing any guests yet.
So we can only imagine, with fifty per cent of the available weekend passes already sold, how quickly the event will reach sold-out status now that the guest news is starting to come in. Because, yes, the first two names on the guest list have now been announced - and while neither of them are particularly surprising, they're both very welcome to hear all the same.
First up is Robert Llewellyn, who continues a proud record of DJ attendance that goes all the way back to 2006 - at least, it does if you count his Skype chat at 2011 as being present, which in this modern technological age I'm sure we all do. And joining Robert is another DJ regular, Hattie Hayridge - who, if past years are anything to go by, will likely supplement the usual autograph, photo and Q&A appearances with additional stints joining in with the officially-sanctioned (and unofficially-sanctioned) fun, and just generally being extremely nice to everybody.
If you've somehow missed what DJ is all about, then where have you been? But as we're nice, we'll recap: it takes place over the weekend of Friday 7th-Sunday 9th April 2017 at the Crowne Plaza, Nottingham. It's the premiere Red Dwarf fan event, with special guests from the cast and crew of Red Dwarf past and present; and the weekend is jam-packed with Q&A sessions, autographs, quizzes, auctions, karaoke, a cosplay competition, "coffee morning" meet and greets and... well, loads more stuff. It's a great opportunity to meet other Dwarf fans, get a little bit closer to your heroes, and just generally celebrate everything that's fantastic about our favourite show.
Weekend passes can now be bought for £75 if you're already a member of the fan club, and £90 if you're not; and the eagle-eyed will probably notice that, given that fan club membership costs £15 itself, then if you're not already you may as well join up and then get the cheaper ticket, as it won't cost you any more! But don't delay, because by the time the next guest is announced, it may already have sold out...
