Back to Back to Earth
Director's Cut gets another Dave airing - and in HD!
2 March, 2012
The months leading up to the broadcast of Red Dwarf X are already falling away - we can't believe it's been a whole month since the last audience recording - but in the wait for Autumn 2012 to roll around, there are all sorts of ways of staying in the Dwarf mood.
One such option is to revisit the crew's most recent adventure, the 2009 Easter special that kick-started the show's resurrection: Back to Earth. And if you don't already own the ninety-minute special on Blu-Ray or DVD, or even if you just quite enjoy watching your favourite programmes getting a broadcast airing, then Dave have got just the thing for you - as the Director's Cut is being broadcast on Dave and Dave HD on Sunday 4th March.
Although Back to Earth originally aired in three parts, the home release introduced a joined-together (and slightly altered in places) Director's Cut edition, and it was this version that got its first freeview broadcast on Dave in July last year. Back then, however, Dave's sister high-definition channel had yet to be launched - but this time, viewers who have the channel as part of their Sky or Virgin Media XL packages can enjoy the special in all its spectacular, HD glory.
The evening of Dwarf kicks off at 9pm, when Back to Earth will be broadcast - but the fun doesn't stop there, as the half-hour Smeg Ups "best of" package, originally shown as part of BBC2's Red Dwarf Night in 1998, follows at 10.30pm. Oh, and if you miss the first go around? The whole package is being shown again from half past midnight, too. Lovely stuff.
And if your telly doesn't have access to either Dave channel and you're feeling left out, need we even remind you that you can still get Back to Earth on Blu-ray and DVD, and in high-definition via iTunes...?
