IGN's Top 50 Sci-Fi Shows
Guess where Red Dwarf comes...
11 March, 2011
It's always good to know that Red Dwarf still holds on to its place in the public consciousness as an example of a genuinely great TV show. Sure, we all know it's the case, but it's good to see the acknowledgment of a wider context.
Lest we forget - it's not just a cult show. it's a popular show.
IGN's in-house team recently posted their chart of the Top 50 Sci-Fi TV Shows, and our beloved small rouge one came in at a very respectable 20th place. Beating out the likes of Life on Mars, Quantum Leap, and Lost in Space. (Plus, obviously, all the shows that never in made the list.) It is, of course, the only sitcom on the list.
Perhaps surprisingly, the rebooted Battlestar Galactica topped the chart at number one, followed by the more anticipated big names: Star Trek, The Twilight Zone, Doctor Who and The X-Files. Disagree? Here's how the team made their choice:
"We used impact on the genre, overall story and creative content, critical and fan reaction, legacy and Editor's Choice. (Buffy and Angel were sidelined for this list, as we're saving them for an eventual rank of Best Fantasy TV.) So set your phasers to 'stunningly impressed' or 'violently hate-fuelled' and engage."
What do you reckon? Let us know!
