Another Point of View
Grant Naylor respond to BBC feedback show.
19 October, 2007
After Doug Naylor's statements were passed on at the Dimension Jump convention this year, fans have been bravely backing Red Dwarf to the BBC, culminating on Sunday, October 14th with a video sent by fan Sarah Jones to Points of View, encouraging a flood of emails.
The BBC - voiced by Sir Terry Wogan - responded:
We asked if there are any plans for a Red Dwarf resurrection. The Controller of Comedy told us - which conflicts with some website rumours - that the last time a discussion was had about Red Dwarf with the team that make it was at least five years ago. They've never approached her since, but she's more than happy for them to come and talk to her.
GNP have sent the following response to the programme:
When the Red Dwarf film was looking for finance the producers logically approached BBC Two in 2004. A former BBC employee who had held various senior management positions was used as a go-between by Red Dwarf Films to talk to the BBC. He passed the message back to GNP that the BBC were no longer interested in supporting the film or commissioning any more series of Red Dwarf as they were no longer interested in attracting the Red Dwarf audience. Without the support of Red Dwarf's prime broadcaster the finance package dissolved and the film has still not been produced.
You can - and should - discuss this burning issue on the Red Dwarf Webboard.
