Little Smeg Ups
Designs for the outtakes video on PlayStation Portable.
9 June, 2006
It's time for a collection of amusing errors and hysterical cock-ups as 2 entertain and Grant Naylor Productions dip a toe in the water of the UMD format.
UMD, as any 14 year-old knows, stands for Universal Media Disc. It's the format for movies and suchlike on the PlayStation Portable ?? a games console that sold by the bucketload last Christmas, and now seems to be a permanent fixture on any bus or train you get on.
The Smeg Ups, hosted by Robert Llewellyn as Kryten, is Red Dwarf's first PSP release. It features the 50-minute outtakes compilation (cunningly edited, with new voiceover by Robert, to replace the old merchandise promotional section for something more up-to-date, directing fans to this very website), plus the Series VII Smeg Ups as an added bonus.
Once again Deluxe Digital have provided the menus for the disc, which will retail at a wallet-friendly RRP of just £12.99. And although the outtakes have appeared on DVD, the full edit, with all Kryten introductions, has never appeared on disc before.
So if you're going on holiday this summer, The Smeg Ups should help make the flight/voyage/traffic jam go by just a little smoother. Sadly, though, it won't be able to answer the question of 'Are we nearly there yet?'
The Smeg Ups UMD is released in the UK on July 10th.
