24 March, 2006
March 27th, 2006. It's a date that's sure to go down in Red Dwarf history. It's the Monday that unveils the final part of Grant Naylor's four-year DVD project. dvd_launch_(Be sure to check out the details of the launch event!)
Since beginning work in April 2002, GNP have - alongside BBC Worldwide, and latterly 2 entertain - been putting their all into these releases. The critical and popular reaction has been astounding, the sales figures proof positive that quality matters.
So here it is - Red Dwarf VIII. A 3-disc set, also available as a gift box with a skutter model (demand for which has sky-rocketed; pick them up quick!). The piled-high extras include original documentary The Tank, Smeg Ups, Deleted Scenes, Storyboard Comparisons, PBS Idents, Collector's Booklet, Comedy Connections special and... well, loads of stuff. Check out the list here.
reddwarf.co.uk has updated with two new (and free) desktop wallpapers - Chris Veale's Series VIII background art, and a somewhat ironic image based on the deleted scene captions you'll no doubt have become accustomed to over the last four years.
The website also has a raft of VIII-based content. Beyond the regular episode guide and image gallery we have Talkie Toaster comedy interviews with the characters of Kill Crazy, Hollister, Ackerman, Birdman, and Doctor Lucas McClaren.
The Mr Flibble interview archive, meanwhile, has meetings with actors Andrew Alston(Mex), Yasmin Bannerman(First Traffic Controller),Jeillo Edwards(Second Traffic Controller), David Gillespie(Selby), Mac McDonald(Captain Hollister), Graham McTavish(Ackerman), Kika Mirylees(Doc Newton), Heidi Monsen(Talia), Shend(Knot), Genevieve Swallow(Last Woman Officer) and Andy Taylor(Doctor Lucas McClaren).
He's also interfaced with the crew: Paul Alexander(writer), Mel Bibby(production designer), Howard Burden(costume designer), Jim Francis(special effects), Linda Glover(casting director), Steven Howarth(models), Bill Pearson(special effects), Chris Veale(CGI effects), Jem Whippey(sound) and, of course, writer Doug Naylor.
Plus, as ever, the Time Hole will take you behind the scenes for the entire series!
Enjoy the DVD - and don't forget to post your reviews on the Webboard!
