Fringe Benefits
Norman Lovett, Hattie Hayridge and Robert Llewellyn pack their bags for the Edinburgh festival.
28 June, 2002
For the chance to catch three of Red Dwarf's greatest talents live, look no further than the Edinburgh Festival. Why not show up in Dwarf T-shirts so people can point you out?
Norman Lovett is booked in at the Cafë Royal (Venue 47) from August 1st to the 26th at 7.45. One of the UK's best stand-up comedians, and a Fringe veteran, Norman told reddwarf.co.uk, "I have a feeling this is going to be my best show in Edinburgh ever." His show will begin with a monologue - Norman in character as art gallery attendant Graham Bradshaw. He recently recorded a Radio 4 pilot for the character, and is hoping to take him to a series.
Following a costume break - during which - get this - Kitty Lovett (10) will provide music and comedy, having already begun to follow in dad's footsteps - the Holly actor returns for a full-blown bout of stand-up, covering a brand new selection of Norman niggles, including cyclists and gumbusters (you have to hear it for yourself).
Robert Llewellyn meanwhile can be found at the Assembly Rooms from August 12th to the 26th at 5pm. The show is WomanWizard - a spoof launch for the software in question, as well as its sister product ManWizard. "These software engines break the mould in cross gender communication, allowing the consumer to enhance their user experience." Robert told reddwarf.co.uk, tongue pretty firmly in cheek.
The graphics being created by a "clever geezer in California", where the show will be premiered in July. "[After Edinburgh] I'm doing a 48 date tour around the country, which I know starts in Hayes in Middlesex, but after that - who knows? I don't have the list yet!"
Finally, Hattie Hayridge can be seen in Best of the Fest 2002, also at the Assembly Rooms, on Friday, August 16th at midnight. American comic Don Irrera will be hosting the night, with two other names on the bill still to be confirmed.
Norman Lovett has also been making himself available to up and coming comics for tutoring. Placing an advert is The Stage magazine, Norman has been teaching, one-on-one, to art of stand-up. And they Lovett. (Oh, like we weren't going to do that gag somewhere.) Kitty Lovett, meanwhile, has reached the final of Jongleurs's The Funniest Kid in the UK competition. It must be in the genes!
