Beeb Goes Dwarfy
As plans for a BBC2 screening continue, the BBC launch their Red Dwarf minisite.
22 March, 2002
<It's a week to remember as the BBC's website acquires its own little bit of Dwarf-dom - a Red Dwarf section of its very own. The Red Dwarf Minisite is being produced by Catherine Archer under the auspices of the newly updated Comedy section. So what does the mini-site offer?
"The BBC mini-site is a great introduction to the world of Red Dwarf," Catherine told reddwarf.co.uk, "with a history of the show, a clip from every single episode, and plenty of quiz questions to make sure you've been concentrating. We're particularly proud of our quotes generator, a page which gives you a new Red Dwarf quote every few seconds. Lie back and enjoy the insults..."
"The Red Dwarf site is the first of many mini-sites which we will be rolling out on www.bbc.co.uk/comedy over the next few months. We've been working closely with reddwarf.co.uk to ensure that there is no duplication between the two sites - instead, it's intended for a more general audience. In a nutshell, we're trying to hook in the three or four people out there who aren't already Red Dwarf fans!"
Mr Flibble took a trip up to the Beeb recently, and was amazed to find one of Dr Who's arch enemies sitting in the production office. "It's true! We have a real Dalek in our office here at BBC Fictionlab. The official Doctor Who website is produced in this department. Well, any excuse to own a Dalek. He's fully functional, and he doesn't half scare visitors when they come out of the lifts."
But was she excited to meet Mr Flibble? "More than I can say. My hand has now been where Chris Barrie's has been. Nuff said." Mr Flibble is very cross.
Each episode clip is available to reddwarf.co.uk users by checking out the Episode Guide on the Black Box Deck.
