Synopsis

When an identical ship materialises alongside Starbug, the crew are alarmed to receive an SOS call from themselves fifteen years into the future.

This episode originally had the working title Present From The Future.

Long before DVDs, Out of Time provided Red Dwarf's first piece of bonus/deleted material - with the original ending (showing the crew enjoying "chilled margaritas" after it was revealed that Rimmer's destruction of the time drive had deleted their future selves) appearing to much fanfare on the Smeg Ups video in 1994.

Amid a generally fraught production schedule for Series VI, Out of Time was the tightest of all - with Rob and Doug literally rewriting dialogue during the shoot, updating the autocue for the cast to read from.
