Despair Squid

Kryten's Notes
A hyper-evolved life-form discovered on an ocean planet. It seems the creature was created through eco-acceleration, becoming the dominant - and possibly only - species to survive. The poor thing, it must have been so lonely... sniff.

Excuse me. When threatened the squid releases a venom, an ink that causes hallucinations in its attackers which drive them to suicide. No-one has yet thought to research the reasons why suicide would in any way affect a hologram like Rimmer, nor how he was able to absorb the ink in the first place. But then, nobody's cleaned out the fridge for the last two years, either.

The despair squid is apparently male. The female incarnation releases a similar toxin, with the key difference that the hallucination leads the victim into joy rather than despair. I have classified this animal the 'elation squid'. Mr Cat has classified it 'lunch'.
