The BrittasBox Empire
The Brittas Empire arrives on BritBox in the USA.
2 April, 2021
As one of the many streaming services currently offering Red Dwarf, we're no strangers to BritBox, the BBC and ITV joint venture that delivers British comedy and drama to an audience around the world. And this week, Chris Barrie fans across the Atlantic are in for a treat, as The Brittas Empire joins its listings.
Created by Richard Fegen and Andrew Norriss, The Brittas Empire starred Chris as Gordon Brittas, the over-zealous and disaster-prone manager of Whitbury Newtown Leisure Centre, alongside Harriet Thorpe, Michael Burns and Julia St John as his trusty staff. The series ran for 52 episodes between 1991-1997 and attracted in the region of 10 million viewers at its peak. It's been absent from streaming services in the UK for some time, but we're pleased to see that it's available to watch now in the US.
Many fans have wanted to see a Brittas comeback for years, and with the cast, including Chris, expressing their interest in seeing it happen during this Em-Con Reunion from last January, well, we'd love to see it too. And who knows, if this attracts enough viewers, maybe it will even have an influence.
BritBox costs $6.99 per month, or $69.99 for the full year. To find out more, including how to watch or to sign up for a free seven-day trial, visit their website. And just in case UK fans feel like they're missing out, for £5.99 a month or £59.99 for the year, the service also offers Red Dwarf Series I-VIII, as well as Maid Marion and her Merry Men and Death in Paradise, both starring Danny John-Jules.
