ABC, Easy As Comedy
Red Dwarf XII lands in Australia!
29 December, 2017
If you've a long enough memory to think back to this time last year, you might recall that it was just before the turn of the new year that Red Dwarf XI made the journey to the Southern hemisphere, pitching up on the ABC2 channel for showings in Australia. You might therefore have expected that a year on, you'd see exactly the same thing happen with Red Dwarf XII.
And you'd be right. Except there's been a couple of small changes. Firstly, the channel that hosts Red Dwarf for our Antipodean viewers is no longer called ABC2 - in a rebranding exercise not too dissimilar to the way UKTV G2 became Dave all those years back, the channel is now more reflective of its content and named ABC Comedy.
Secondly, if you don't manage to catch showings as they go out on Tuesday evenings, you can catch up with the show on ABC's iView service. An on-demand platform that's free to viewers in Australia, episodes will be going up straight away on this service (at the time of writing, you can already see the opening episode, Cured on there) in a manner not dissimilar to our own UKTV Play!
Not only that, but we can also bring you news of the DVD and Blu-ray release for the Australia and New Zealand region: the two-disc set is coming out on 14th February, just in time for Red Dwarf's thirtieth anniversary! So it'll be a double celebration all around, then.
