Demand The Best
Red Dwarf returns to Netflix.
19 June, 2015
Keeping up with exactly what is and isn't available on various online on-demand video platforms can often feel like a full-time job in and of itself - in fact, there are whole websites and Twitter feeds dedicated to that very task. Although they also cover things that aren't Red Dwarf, which makes us wonder why they bother.
Anyway, after a long period in one particular streaming-based wilderness, we're delighted to announce that Red Dwarf is once again available on the biggest one of them all: Netflix.
Now, before you get too excited, we should point out that this only applies to UK subscribers: sadly, after being taken off the US version of the service earlier in the year, the show has yet to make a return to transatlantic shores. But if you're a British subscriber (or on a British network), then you can now watch Series I-VIII (no Back to Earth or Red Dwarf X, we're afraid) to your heart's content - at least, for as long as they're still around.
In fact, if you'd left off watching them the last time they disappeared, Netflix will actually remember which episode you were last viewing, and let you pick right up where you stopped. It's clever like that.
And if you're not a Netflix subscriber? Well, an array of different digital options still exist: as of June 2015, UK viewers can see the show on Amazon Instant Video (Series I-VIII are included free if you have a Prime subscription, or you can pay per episode if not) along with the "boxset" options on Virgin Media and Sky Go. You can also buy episodes to keep from iTunes, Sony Entertainment Network and Xbox Video. Americans, meanwhile, also have the Amazon, iTunes, Sony and Xbox options.
And then there's UKTV Play. The new on-demand platform from Dave's parent company, available on your computer or mobile device, currently gives you access to Series X along with any episodes shown on the channel for a week after their broadcast - so at the time of writing, that includes Series VI episodes Rimmerworld and Out of Time, with Series VII eps to follow after their repeat run this weekend.
Phew. Told you it was complicated. As ever, we'll do our best to keep you up to date with any changes in availability - and keep your eye on the @RedDwarfHQ Twitter feed, too!
