New edition of the fan club mag on the way.
24 April, 2015
You'd think that what with planning an imminent Dimension Jump convention, the Official Red Dwarf Fan Club team would have plenty on their plates already. But the club isn't only all about putting on a rip-roaring weekend of Red Dwarf fun - although it definitely does do that - as there's also the small matter of Back to Reality, the periodic members-only digital magazine.
Issue #7 of the revamped magazine, cover dated Spring 2015, is shortly winging its way into the mailboxes of every paid-up member of the club - but if you haven't got a copy of the mag, then what exactly are you missing out on? Back to Reality contains features, opinion, news, reviews, letters and artwork from the fan club team, as well as contributions from club members.
This issue, there's a feature on the influence of Dark Star and other cult sci-fi on Red Dwarf, as well as a somewhat light-hearted take on various objects and people in reality that seem to draw inspiration from our favourite show. The team debate whether or not a rigid continuity is the be-all and end-all, and also put the episode Polymorph under the analytical microscope. There's a review of recently-published unofficial Red Dwarf encyclopaedia Total Immersion, the usual guest column from Robert Llewellyn, and reader-submitted fan fiction and comic strips.
If you haven't yet joined the fan club, you can do so and immediately get access to this issue and all previous editions of BTR - along with an ever-growing online archive of classic Better than Life fanzines. A subscription costs from £14, and lasts until you've received four new issues of the magazine (which usually takes between a year and two). As well as the mag, you get a big discount on tickets to Dimension Jump, access to exclusive member content and forums, and even a personalised "Smegmail" email address.
To join the club, simply head over to the official website - or better yet, get yourself along to Dimension Jump next weekend and meet the gang in person!
You can find out more about membership over in the Fan Club section!
Please note that while Grant Naylor Productions fully support the Official Fan Club and Dimension Jump weekend, they are standalone entities in which we have neither a shareholding or common directors.
