Web Dwarf
Catch up with the crew online.
20 February, 2015
Since you're reading reddwarf.co.uk, it's presumably a pretty safe bet that you're interested in keeping up with the cast and crew of Red Dwarf in the online arena. But even so, it might surprise you the extent to which the various members of the gang are involved in internet endeavours.
Of course, the first port of all these days to keep up to date with most people's work and whereabouts is to follow them on Twitter - and unsurprisingly, several of the Red Dwarf favourites are active users of the social networking site. Robert Llewellyn (@bobbyllew) is probably the Red Dwarf Twitter king - he's been active on the site since 2007 and has tweeted over 51,000 times. But Danny John Jules (@dannyjohnjules) is also a pretty lively follow, and is never short of a thought or two, with a tweet count above the 22K mark. Having previously professed not to understand this whole Twitter malarkey, Craig Charles used to be content to let the staff of his 6music Funk and Soul Show tweet on his behalf, but has started posting to the @ccfunkandsoul account himself more frequently of late. And Chris Barrie doesn't tweet, but Norman Lovett does, and can be found at @normanlovett1.
Other Twitter accounts worth a look if you want to get some more Dwarf in your timeline are Doug Naylor (@dougrdnaylor), Richard Naylor (@richarddgnaylor), Andrew Ellard (@ellardent), Mark Dexter (@realmarkdexter), Tony Hawks (@thefridgeman) and Rob Grant (@realrobgrant). And there are of course official accounts for the show itself (@RedDwarfHQ) and the Official Fan Club (@TORDFC).
Elsewhere on the net, YouTube has been a pretty vibrant home for Robert Llewellyn in particular for several years. He has his own channel where he occasionally posts videos and thoughts, but there are also dedicated channels for his webseries Fully Charged and Carpool. If that weren't enough, you can also see him hosting technology-related features on the FIA Formula E channel. Not to be left out, Danny John Jules' biking-based series Easy Riders can be seen on The Community Channel's YouTube page.
Danny and Robert also both have blogs - http://www.dannyjohnjules.com/ and http://llewblog.squarespace.com/ respectively - where you can find updates on their work as well as their occasional thoughts on all manner of subjects. And this is also an area where we occasionally get to hear from Chris Barrie, who posts updates at http://www.chrisbarrie.co.uk/ from time to time. Chris has also recently got involved with an online anti-bullying initiative within cult fandom, i-Cosplay, which is well worth a look.
Some other recent individual items of interest that have popped up online include this podcast in which Series X script editor Andrew Ellard discusses both writing and editing comedy. It's a fascinating glimpse behind the curtain, and very worth checking out. So too is this surprisingly frank Telegraph article featuring Craig Charles discussing his finances in their regular "Fame and Fortune" section. Co-creator Rob Grant, meanwhile, spoke to website Wareable about the uncanny ways Red Dwarf seems to have predicted modern technology. And if you're a fan of the show's model work and special effects, you'll definitely want to have a look at the hugely extensive online portfolio updated by Bill Pearson earlier this year.
With all of these places to check out in the wider world, of course, you could be forgiven for forgetting just how much stuff we've got right here - but don't forget our Features, Complete Guide, Downloads, Chat Forum and... well, everything else, really! And keep your eyes on the site over the coming months for yet more in the way of new and exclusive content, as well as a few exciting blasts from Red Dwarf's past...
