Craig in online Corrie spinoff.

As devoted fans of both Coronation Street and Red Dwarf will know, the two shows share a common cast member - Simon Gregson, who has played Steve McDonald in the venerable ITV soap for the last twenty-four years, also made an appearance in our own Back to Earth, playing himself as the Dwarfers took an hallucination-induced trip to the Street.

Oh, and Craig Charles is in them both sometimes, or something.

Craig and Simon have been an excellent double-act on Corrie for several years, now, with their characters Lloyd and Steve working together at the "Streetcars" cab office. And now, the production team have decided to take advantage of the duo's chemistry by plonking them in a series of short, online-only "minisodes", titled Streetcar Stories.

The first two clips are already available, with the first showing the pair indulging in a Morecambe and Wise-esque tea-preparation routine, while in the second they undertake "The Great British Dunk-Off":

The remaining two shorts will go live on Monday 10th February and Wednesday 12th February - in which, we're told, Steve and Lloyd will "find themselves out of their depth when they put their manliness to the test".

All sounds like jolly good fun to us. We're just disappointed Chris Barrie wasn't given the chance to try out his Mancunian accent again...
