Get Dwarf On Friday
Rounding up Dave's weekly RDX updates.
10 August, 2012
Friday. The fifth and last day of the regular working week, named after the Norse goddess Frige. A fictional character in Robinson Crusoe. A YouTube-sensation pop record. And, for the last twelve years, the centre of your Red Dwarf universe, courtesy of reddwarf.co.uk's weekly updates. But thanks to our friends at Dave, Fridays are currently even more special.
The home of both "witty banter" and the brand new series of Red Dwarf, Dave are currently dishing out all manner of incredibly lovely Red Dwarf X teasery titbits on a weekly basis - usually just in time for you to have digested both your lunch, and our own Friday news bites. So, to continue this laboured dining metaphor to the end of the paragraph, what's been on the menu lately?
The first trailer for the new series hit the web in July, sparking a huge surge of Red Dwarf-related interest in which sites including SFX, NME, Digital Spy and Radio Times all had their say. The general consensus seems to be that the dramatic new look of the series, and the return of the studio audience, are extremely welcome developments. And how about that model shot, eh?
The second update, meanwhile, was an exclusive video message from none other than Kryten himself - offering a fresh glimpse at part of the new set, along with a more detailed look at the new costume and confirmation of just how naturally Robert has slipped back into character. Not to mention a reminder of just how tight schedules on set were throughout production...
Not all the weekly updates are videos, however, and most recently Dave have published on their site two very lovely new behind-the-scenes photos. The first shows a wider view of the main set, back in the days when it was still under construction. For fans who weren't at the audience recordings, this shows the remarkable contrast between the large feel of the ship as it will be seen onscreen, and the relatively small studio space in which the crew had to work.
The second photo, meanwhile, is of a costume prop: a helmet and tank of some kind, emblazoned with Lister's own name. Space suit? Diving gear? We couldn't possibly say - but the eagle-eyed may well have noticed that it's already made an appearance in earlier behind-the-scenes material...
And what's more, by the time many of you read this, there'll already have been yet more new content released. So make sure to keep checking joindave.co.uk - as well as the Red Dwarf Twitter and Facebook feeds - every Friday afternoon, and if you're really good, you might just get another hugely exciting video before too long...
Red Dwarf X will be broadcast on Dave later this year.
