We've had a lot of requests for information on the new Red Dwarf On Your Mobile service and, having all the technical prowess of a caveman, we thought maybe we'd better leave it to the experts.
So here, breaking down everything you need to know, is a handy explanation from our partners at Pitch:
Red Dwarf On Your Mobile - How to get it, where to get it and why to get it!
The Red Dwarf On Your Mobile service has been running for three months now. Time for an update!
If you haven't taken a look, if the whole thing seems more confusing than an astro-engineering exam, don't worry - Pitch are here to make it all make sense.
1 - How to get it
There are two ways you can get the Red Dwarf On Your Mobile service in the UK - via a subscription service or on a pay per download basis.
- Subscription
You can get a link to the subscription service by texting RD9 to 87000 - don't worry you haven't signed up by doing this! A handy link will be sent to your phone, taking you to the site. Have a look around, see if you want to sign up.
Hopefully once you've see the great ringtones, mobisodes and wallpapers that are available you'll want to download something - just hit the button and we'll send you a text telling you how to sign up.
The service costs only £3 per week and you can get up to 6 items of content per week (only 50p per item!) as well as access to a mobile social network where you can chat to other fans and upload pics straight from your phone.
The site is updated with a different mobisode each week and we are regularly adding new ringtones and wallpapers. You also don't have to worry about leaving the service - its easy. You just have to text Stop to 87000 and your subscription will be cancelled immediately - you'll even get a free text message to confirm that you've been unsubscribed
- Pay per download
If you'd prefer not to subscribe you can buy individual items direct from 02, Vodafone or T-Mobile wap-sites on your phone - this will usually be the first page you come to when you browse the internet on your phone. Red Dwarf content can usually be found in the entertainment sections. Individual items cost around £2.50.
2 - Where you can get it
Red Dwarf On Your Mobile is currently available in the UK and the good news is that it will also be available on a pay per download basis in Australia in early Feb, and on subscription in South Africa by early March. The service will be rolled out to other countries such as the Republic of Ireland, USA, New Zealand during the year and we'll keep you posted on progress.
3 - Why to get it
What's not to get?! Here are three great reasons to join up.
- Mobisodes
Red Dwarf is now animated! Hilarious clips of your favourite characters in action are available right now. There's even the two-part 2007 Christmas special, written especially for the occasion by Doug Naylor and performed by the cast.
- Voicetones
All-new recordings by the cast provide us with the funniest voicetones this side of Pluto. Want Kryten answering your voicemail, Rimmer telling you to answer the smegging phone, or Holly providing a text alert? There's a huge range to choose from.
- Social Network
Chat to other fans and upload your very own content from your mobile. Wherever you are, you'll be among friends.
Red Dwarf On Your Mobile. It's safe, secure, and smegging hilarious.
