The joy of chapter points, when done properly, is their ability to get you to where you want to go. You have to pick locations based on several criteria. There's importance of the scene, both to the plot and, more importantly, within the context of Dwarf history. 'Is this a famous scene?'
Then you have to consider duration and distance from previous and future chapter points. It's no good having two points all of 45 seconds apart. Finally, there's specific placement based on the audio of the scene - the authoring house favour a clear second of zero-dialogue at the start of each chapter in order that nobody miss anything due to the restrictions of the format.
Then, once in a while, you can also have a little fun. If you check out the Pete points you'll notice that we've located a chapter stop at the beginning of every captain's office scene. With a gag based on repetition - the walk down the corridor, the camera tracking left, Rimmer's salute, Lister's wave - it's rather cool to compare all six versions in quick succession.
Those chapters are named Captain's Office after the episode's working title. It's a jokey bit of self-referencing which we've always tried to include. Other favourite chapter names this time include 'Reservoir Dorks', 'Flours' and the excellent 'SMOOth' - which, as we all know, is "Smooth with a capital smoo".
It's worth reiterating that Back in the Red's chapters differ slightly between the regular episode versions and the feature-length edition. This, of course, is because the show has been Xtended to include ten minutes of additional scenes - the entire story, fused into one massive episode, runs for 1 hour 22 minutes.
We've dropped the lengthy recaps, extra titles and credits and included a few lost dialogue scenes - the best of which features Kryten, Cat, Kochanski and Lister before (and during) their hearing with the captain. (Kochanski, on learning that they don't serve wine in prison: "No wine at all? Isn't that against the Geneva convention?")
