Check And Mate, Sucker
Danny's new movie packs quite a punch.
3 February, 2006
Director Malcolm Martin describes it as "a non-nonsense action comedy". Danny John-Jules stars in Sucker Punch, and the trailer is available right now on the movie's website. (Just go to Links.) Meanwhile, reddwarf.co.uk has picked up a few sneak-preview images.
Anticipating a first screening at Cannes in May, Danny plays hustler and illegal fight manager Harley. And his director is very clear about the actor's huge contribution:
"You can pay an actor no bigger compliment than writing a role specifically for him, but even I was amazed when Danny turned up on set the first time with the now infamous SuperHarley suit. He took the character to a new level and is the emotional heart of what otherwise would have been a straightforward action film. There aren't enough words here to put Danny's contribution into perspective, and although I receive both writer and director credit, Harley is very much a collaboration between us. Danny certainly put the cheese on my cracker."
Danny fans may remember a story a while back about another Danny indie flick, The Tournament, and we have to salute his continued support of fledgling British projects.
Not that he's the only one. After success in short film The Dealer - previously covered here - Craig Charles looks set to appear in a feature-length movie version of the story. Surely the police can't be called out twice?
