Memorable Moments
There will be loads of them at this year's official cast reunion!
28 October, 2005 (Updated 18 November, 2005)
Just in case you've not booked your ticket - and if you've been part of our user mailing list, you'll be receiving a money-off voucher shortly - Memorabilia have a Red Dwarf Cast Reunion on the cards for the 26th and 27th of November at the Birmingham NEC. And it's going to be a stonker.
As previously reported, the line-up includes Chris Barrie, Craig Charles, Danny John-Jules, Robert Llewellyn, Chloë Annett, Mac McDonald, Norman Lovett and Hattie Hayridge.
STOP PRESS: With enormous regret, Mac McDonald has had to pull out of Memorabilia this time around. The rest of the cast - the magnificent seven - are still confirmed for the duration of the event.
Then there's a costume competition, with £250 prize money up for grabs - more details on the website, accessible via Links. A whole slew of merchandise will also be available, including the new Series VII DVD and the chance to pick up three headknockers (Lister, Kryten and Inquisitor, reported here, more details coming soon) and the extra-special Mr Flibble Glove Puppet - both before their official UK release at the start of December!
Three radio ads have been recorded for the event, too, which should be airing on commercial stations from early November. And who recorded them - well, reddwarf.co.uk was right there...
At 10:30am on Thursday, October 20th, Danny John-Jules and Robert Llewellyn arrived at the offices of Kiss FM, had scripts thrust into their hands and were swiftly locked in a cupboard with microphones.
Needing to feel fully in character, Danny had brought his own set of teeth for the gig (actually purloined from the set of Blade 2). Robert, meanwhile, was awfully excitable, as he was due to run off that very afternoon to begin filming of his new DVD project.
Amid much sillyness - including a lot of chat in faux-Russian accents and Dan obsessing over a guy in the office who was the spitting image of Emile Charles - we soon discovered all three scripts to be 8-to-10 seconds too long for the 30-second slots. This was actually rather fitting, though, as it's more or less the same ratio each Dwarf episode overruns by!
Whittling away words and lines became an art form, and pages were soon smothered in biro - at least until, despite their booth being only five foot square, the guys managed to lose their pen...
Danny and Robert read and re-read until we hit each ad exactly on time. And despite problems it may have caused in the edit, we chose to record the pair together in order to get that authentic chemistry.
With that done, a final take was done of each with pauses between each line - just in case. At least until Danny forgot to do it. As the man said himself, "How can the Cat forget the paws?"
The final edited ads - complete with ship engine hum in the background - are available to download here, here and here. You can read each of the three original scripts here, here and here, complete with indications of the changes. As an added bonus treat, we also have a Smeg Ups reel featuring outtakes from the session.
Enjoy! And we'll see you at Memorabilia!

STOP PRESS: Danny John-Jules and Norman Lovett also confirmed for guest appearances at the Glasgow Memorabilia show on November 5th and 6th! As ever, more details can be found on the show's website.
