Brittas Six
The sixth series featuring the deadliest man in Whitbury Newtown. Plus news of series seven.
18 February, 2005
Two sixth series coming out on the same day? Both featuring Chris Barrie? Surely a conspiracy! Series six of The Brittas Empire - the first to be produced without writer/creators Richard Fegan and Andrew Norriss - is out on February 21st in the expected two-disc set, and features the episodes Back With a Bang, Body Language, We All Fall Down, A Walk on the Wild Side, At the Double, Mr Brittas Falls in Love and Snap Happy.
The series features some interesting changes along with the new writing team - with Julia St. John not returning, the new character of Penny Bidmead is introduced to run the privatised Sauna Solarium (and Chris pronounces 'solarium' in a way only he can). More interesting, though, is how many threads are picked up from series five - including as the consequences of Brittas' resurrection, Carole's return from her Sound of Music-esque romance, and just what did happen with that bomb that Colin accidentally shipped to Brussels...?
The DVD also includes a selection of outtakes from the fourth series, which shows Chris as the joker of the cast (all the stranger given that he is one of the quieter players on Dwarf - but then foghorns seem muted and subtle compared to Craig and Danny!). Pictured here are the usual array of menu shots - the series having stepped up again with some 3D CGI, this time recreating the exterior of the ill-fated leisure centre.
Finally, we have news of the release of the seventh and final Brittas series on the (confirmed) date of May 23rd. The only bonus item to speak of will be the Surviving Christmas special. Check out the cover art, practice your nasal laugh, and prepare yourself for the final moments of an underrated comedy gem.
Chris Barrie is appearing on Today With Des and Mel on Wedneday the 23rd to talk about the release. You can also read his thoughts on Brittas in our Mr Flibble Interview.
