Auction Donation
Proceeds from prop and painting sale donated to Cancer Research.
11 February, 2005
The recent auction of a key Red Dwarf prop - the Rimmer-On-The-Loo painting from Series II - was a huge success. Inspired by the generosity of Chrissie Bibby, who lost her husband, Dwarf Production Designer and all-round genius Mel Bibby, to cancer in 2002, the Prop Store of London also donated a generous percentage from an accompanying prop and costume auction to the cause.
The painting sold to an anonymous UK bidder for a fantastic £3,026, all of which was donated to the charity recently at a presentation within the walls of Shepperton Studios. Another £750 was raised from the Prop Store's own sale - making for a fabulous number to be written on one of those big cheques which are such a prerequisite for these kinds of things.
The cheque was accepted by London Community Fundraiser Sally Graham: "On behalf on Cancer Research UK, we're delighted to receive the money raised from the fantastic auction. We guarantee the money will be spent on the best research into cancer in the UK. Thank you for helping us to cure cancer faster."
Chrissie, who herself worked on several series of the show and is pictured along with Sally and Steve Walker from Prop Store, was delighted with the result. "I'm so pleased that Mel's careful preservation of 'Rimmer on the loo' has raised so much money for Cancer Research UK. Many thanks to the winner for his bid, to Steve at The Prop Store for his help and contribution, and to Grant Naylor for organising it for auction."
