Whitbury Wonder
Series three of The Brittas Empire is out now. Take cover!
16 January, 2004
Eureka Video have been winning the hearts of Chris Barrie fans everywhere with their releases of BBC1's The Brittas Empire. Series three of the Whitbury Newtown Leisure Centre comedy is due out on January 19th on a double-disc set which also includes a smattering of extras.
The winning formula of well-structured farce, strong characterisation and inventive slapstick was penned by Richard Fegen and Andrew Norriss, and the third series episodes are:
The Trial
That Creeping Feeling
Laura's Leaving
Two Little Boys
Sex, Lies And Red Tape
The Stuff Of Dreams
This massively underrated - though hugely popular at the time - comedy recently made number 47 in voters' Top 50 Sitcoms (which, as you know, placed Red Dwarf in the healthy position of 18th). Extras include an image gallery, weblink, 'Where's Ben?' game and a rare interview taken from TV chat show Wogan.
Through their PR, Eureka have confirmed that they plan to continue with Brittas releases. Currently series four and five are being lined up for separate slots later in 2004 - we can only hope it won't be too long before Gordon returns his particular brand of chaos to shiny disc.
You can grab the Brittas Empire DVDs from the Red Dwarf Shop.
