The latest goings-on from actor, comedian and sometime deranged computer Norman Lovett
25 October, 2002
Aside from his recent live stand-up performances and appearance on the Red Dwarf DVD commentary track, Norman Lovett is continuing to update his acting CV. His latest role will be as a driving instructor in the low-budget movie Feedback, directed by Chris Atkins.
According to the release: 'Feedback is a black comedy that undermines our dependence on twenty-first century communications equipment, by suggesting that a melt-down of the mobile phone network would lead to total confusion among our techno-dependent culture.' We'll be bringing you more details from the production in the coming months.
Reddwarf.co.uk spoke to Norman about the filming. "I've only done one day's filming so far and that was great! Regent Canal in Islington on Monday morning - bloody cold! - but the rain kept off."
It's an odd role, especially when Norman doesn't consider himself a particularly good driver. But, of course, as the instructor he never has to get behind the wheel! "I don't have to do any driving. I just sit by the side of the driver. I'm not bad, but I can be a bit silly if someone upsets me," he admits.
Norman is also up for a role in the adaptation of popular novel The Girl With The Pearl Necklace (no sniggering, you). But he hasn't turned his back on stand-up - the Lovett wares will be on display at the Red Rose Club, Finsbury Park on Saturday, November 9th following an appearance in Birmingham on the 7th.
But Norman's not the only talent in the Lovett household. His wife Fiona - having previously appeared in Family Affairs and My Hero - is set to star in Ms. Dynamite's new video. "She's playing an Elizabeth Hurley type, daddy's girl character whose been badly treated and she has to mime to Ms. Dynamite's lyrics. The record is really good by the way. So it's great, very exciting. Fi also played the lead in a low-budget film a year ago called Midnight, playing a detective."
Meanwhile the Lovett girls - Kitty (10) and Lily (12) - are also cracking their way into the 'biz. Kitty was recently proud runner-up for a stand-up award, and Lily has a small role in Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets!
Finally, as previously reported on reddwarf.co.uk, Norman recently appeared in a video for up-coming band Intro2. Now it seems Danny John-Jules and Craig Charles have followed suit, contributing their own guest appearances to the very same video! Check out the pics - and keep an eye on the website for details of the video's public release.
