Mac's Back At The Movies
Captain Hollister snaps up a role in Samuel L Jackson's brand new action comedy.
12 January, 2001
Mac McDonald, the man who brought life (as in 'larger than') to Red Dwarf's own Captain Hollister has landed a role in up and coming action-comedy, The 51st State.
Brought to the screen by Ronny Yu, the Hong Kong director who re-introduced killer doll Chucky to the big screen with the darkly comic Bride of Chucky, The 51st State stars Samuel L. Jackson, Robert Carlyle, Rhys Ifans, Meat Loaf, Emily Mortimer, Ricky Tomlinson and Sean Pertwee.
The $28 million film is one of the biggest British productions ever. Mac features as Mr Davidson, Henchman to Meat Loaf. The script, by Stel Pavlou, Simon Barry and David Leland, tells the story of an American master chemist, Elmo McElroy planning to make it big on a once-in-a-lifetime drug deal. Crossing over to Liverpool from Los Angeles, all does not go to plan as he becomes involved with Carlyle's local villain, the American-hating Felix.
Release is currently planned for this summer.
