Red Dwarf The Movie
20 November, 2000
As of August 2000, the Red Dwarf movie has officially pencilled in the main cast to reprise their roles on the big screen - making good on the promise made by co-creator Doug Naylor not to replace them. The series regulars - Chris Barrie, Craig Charles, Danny John-Jules, Robert Llewellyn, Chloë Annett and Norman Lovett - have all had their places reserved, as has Mac McDonald who plays Captain Hollister.
The movie - whose title and storyline have yet to be confirmed - is set to go into production in the spring of 2001, with the cast's filming schedule allocated from May.
Not that the cast should have any trouble making the transition to widescreen. Aside from McDonald's appearances in genre films such as The Fifth Element and Aliens: The Special Edition, many members of the cast have already shown up in the cinema. (And not just to eat popcorn!) Chris Barrie has recently been cast in the brand new Tomb Raider movie (see Red Hot News), Robert Llewellyn's novel The Man on Platform 5 is being adapted in Hollywood, and Danny John-Jules turned up in smash Brit-flick Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels.
