Dwarfers in Brum

Several cast members attending MCM Birmingham show.

21 November, 2014

Between 2009 and 2013, the city of Birmingham was a hotbed of Red Dwarf-related convention activity - thanks specifically to the three absolutely enormous Dimension Jump events that took place there during that time. But even though the fan club have upped sticks and moved to Nottingham for their next event, another convention is keeping the Dwarf flame alive in England's "second city" this weekend.

Dwarfers in Brum

The MCM Birmingham Expo is one of several multi-fandom sci-fi/fantasy shows of its type, and is usually the case, there are Red Dwarf cast members among the stars of TV and film that will be making appearances. What's perhaps surprising in this instance, however, is just how many the organisers have managed to get together: as all of Chris Barrie, Robert Llewellyn, Danny John-Jules, Hattie Hayridge and Chloë Annett will be there!

The event takes place at the NEC Birmingham, this coming Saturday and Sunday 22nd and 23rd November. As per usual, the guests will be available for autographs (usually charged around the £15 mark) at their tables throughout the day - and you can also book photoshoots with each of them for a further £20. All the guests are scheduled to appear on both days - except for Chloë, who'll only be there on Saturday. In addition, model supremo Mike Tucker will be appearing at the Prop Gallery stand on Sunday, and any fans of Craig Charles' former show Robot Wars might be interested in a live robot battle (featuring some bots from the TV show!) also taking place.

Tickets to the event can either be purchased on the door for £10 per day, or (if you're fast) you can pre-book a special "early access" ticket online at £16 for the day or £30 for the weekend. The Birmingham MCM is one of the last major conventions of its type taking place this year - so if you don't want to have to wait until 2015 to get your moment meeting the cast, now's the time to get your skates on...
